Location: Connecticut My partner's mother has moved out of her leased house (upon landlord's request) after nearly 20 years of residence. During this time, landlord has repeatedly delayed or refused necessary repairs. She was forced to pay out of pocket for many expenses that he should have be covering. Additionally, there has been a mold issue in the house for years that has never been properly addressed, and upon moving out she had to throw out many personal items. Her lease expired June 30th, but the move-out process took longer than expected as she did not receive adequate notice ahead of time. She and landlord verbally agreed to pro-rate the month of July while she finished moving out, which was completed by the 20th. Landlord refused to partake in the final walkthrough and did not contact her for almost 2 weeks following. Now he is demanding she pay rent for the full month of July, final utilities, and a laundry list of repairs that we believe to be unreasonable as they fall under normal "wear and tear" of almost 20 years. Some of these include: Screen door with a broken handle Rusted bathroom exhaust fan Window screens with small holes/tears Doorbell that has been broken for 5+ years Broken microwave Landlord was notified of all of these damages as they happened, but is now threatening small claims court for a total of almost $5,000 when she was expecting to pay around $2,000 for final month's rent and utilities. Location: Connecticut My psycho, yes psycho( she fell into psychosis) ex-wife was diagnosed with bipolar and a delusional disorder got divorced with me in June, Thank God. It was non-contested and we met with family relations and she wanted a list of items. I wrote down a list of items I thought I had and agreed to give them to her by july 1, whatever. I obliged, gave her more than the items listed, took pics etc all that. Now all of a sudden she started to add random items and is demanding it. Every time I said I don't have it, not in my possession etc. She now has filed a motion for contempt again for a post judgment property dispute (Items worth maybe 200$, at most). Thing is, I haven't even received proper service and confirmed with the clerk that marshal service hasn't been given to the clerk either and the hearing is August 5th so past the window. I'm tired. I have had 3, yes 3 false restraining order hearings against me all denied. Its getting old because she is delusional and has unlimited funds from mommy and daddy to harass me with vexacious claims and its killing me. Also the the contempt motion just said failed to give items and is very vague. Honestly, is this something I should even bother attending? Its not like its for child support or anything.

Location: Connecticut I am a tenant in Connecticut and am looking for advice on how to handle a confusing situation. My wife and I have lived in the same rental house for many. We originally rented from a previous landlord. A few years ago, the property was sold to a new owner/management company, and we have continued paying rent as normal. We have always believed we were month-to-month because we never knowingly signed a long-term lease after our 1 original 1 year lease. The house was recently put on the market. The landlord/representative approached us about moving out so the property would be easier to sell. We verbally discussed a buyout agreement and nothing was in writing with no witnesses for whatever that might be worth. Nothing has been signed yet. After agreeing to the buyout, I asked the management company for a copy of our lease because the landlord mentioned that there was supposedly a lease extending until 2027. They sent me a copy that states the end date next year. The signatures on the document are not ours and spelled incorrectly The printed names in the signature section are not spelled correctly. The signatures appear handwritten, not electronic. The lease appears to have been associated with the previous landlord/management entity, not the current one. I was the only inside sales rep the company had -- no marketing team, no web presence, no real lead-gen beyond a couple of underperforming vendors -- so I ended up owning the CRM, building my own outbound automation from scratch because nothing existed, and running the entire sales cycle myself: prospecting, quoting, closing, order-to-install remote support. By the time I left, roughly 11 months in, I'd closed $400K+ in total contract value across 35+ accounts. Location: Connecticut and Massachusetts I promise there is an actual question here once I get through the backstory... got caught twice the summer after graduating college. The first DUI was actually in Hartford CT at a check point on a Friday night which I drove right into it like an idiot. I got a lawyer in CT, never been in trouble in my life... the attorney swindled a ridiculous amount of $ from me to show up to court once. Anyways, I still lived and worked in Mass and my attorney said "Hey you're fine to drive in Mass, enjoy your summer!". Obviously I should have laid low and behaved but I was young and stupid (lots of regrets).... so in August around my birthday I was caught a second time in Mass. I worked my way through the IID program from CT smoothly - 6 months with the device - I then asked if I could remove it and they said - no you need to start the 2 years with the IID for Mass. This is where I really struggled. I had old cars, lots of lock outs, battery drained in the middle of the night during the new England winters, struggled to pay all the fees etc. After about 5 years of these lock outs/ suspensions/ waiting 6 + months (during Covid) for hearings etc...
